Nestled between groves of oak and madrone trees on a steeply sloping site in a nature preserve, the eastern corner of the house burrows into the hillside while the west cantilevers dramatically over the falling topography below. The unique shape of the roof is derived from both context and performance: from the exterior, the roof appears as a simple shed roof inspired by the local agrarian vernacular while the interior is sculpted in response to both natural sunlight and the quality and scale of the interior spaces.
